All boats start out as girls but we are sailing on Orion (I think he’s a boy boat cos Orion was a hunter in Greek mythology) a Leopard 42 built in 2001. He/she has 4 berths so we can have fellow sailors joining us on our adventure. Each berth has its own head (that’s sailing talk for bathroom) for the ultimate sailing comfort.
Needless to say we have first dibs – oh which berth to choose?? – hmmmmm have to think about that one – I’ll let you know
I digress – back to boat specs for those of you interested in the finer points – he is a robust and well known design built in South Africa and delivered from SA on their own bottoms which means they are actually sailed from SA to their new homes – no freighting business for these boats – they are sea worthy!! The Caribbean should be a sailing doddle!
Some boring bits now – built in 2001 – 42 long 23 wide, draws 4 ft (1.2m) which means we can get into shallow water and weighs 8 1/2 tonnes (how’s those measurements!)and has a
12′ tender (that’s the dingy thingy) with a nice big motor for quick access to shore for essential drinks and ice.
